According to trauma expert Bessel van der Kolk ‘dissociation is the essence of trauma’. Dissociation is nearly always a clinical priority. It is very hard to support healing processes if someone is not embodied. It is something that responds extremely well to the biodynamic approach. This seminar is about trauma and how it changes the way our brains work. Steve will rely on the newest scientific brain research and suggest skills on how to work on trauma.

Dissociation is frequently missed by other therapeutic approaches, especially other bodyworkers. The workshop will cover easy, safe ways to help create greater choice for clients to become more embodied. By safely waking up the body we can switch of pain and anxiety.

Topics covered will include:

Why dissociation is so important: it is an underlying theme in nearly all chronic health problems
Review of the underlying physiology of the trauma model: key signs of parasympathetic overwhelm
Supporting embodied awareness – in ourselves, whilst treating and suggestions for clients
Using verbal skills – questions and orientations that can draw out dissociation whilst working on the table
Orienting to the outline of the body – finding the bits that are missing
Working with awareness of the field to support resolution of dissociative processes.
