The immune system is one we often take for granted. It works tirelessly in the background from in-utero to death and is only brought to our attention when it’s not working in the optimal way. Everything from contracting a common cold to cancer; from gut sensitivities to autoimmune disease…all involve our immunity. Add in the relationship between stress and immunity, brain function and its impacts on health and you have a really interesting web of interconnections within the body.

This workshop begins with the a more intimate knowledge of the formation and function of the immune system then starts to link the relationships and inter-dependance of the nervous system, hormones and gut health to get a global understanding of how our health is linked right down to the cellular level of balance.

Clinical relevance will be discussed, including what happens when immunity is suppressed, unbalanced or out of control. These discussions will be focused around how we relate to autoimmunity, cancer and long term stress with chronic infection within the clinic setting.

Topics covered will include:

  • Understanding the development of immunity and it’s importance
  • Classifying the cells of the immune system and role in the body’s defence system
  • Exploring the intelligence of the cell surface markers (including CD4:CD8 ratios and the complement cascade), their role in communication within the body and clinical relevance in disease
  • Discussing the interplay of hormones such as cortisol, long term stress and immunity
  • Explore the brain, the vagus and inflammation
  • Understand the relationship between the enteric nervous system/gut health and immunity
  • Discuss clinical aspects of autoimmunity, allergies and cancer
  • Find practical ways to resource the body including immune organs and lymphatics
